With a lamentable absence of female Directors, this is a really fine film collection featuring some undisputed classics and many neglected gems. There are masterworks from Reed, Roeg, Cox, Loach and Schlesinger, that richly repay with each revisit. For those who have yet to discover them, I particularly relish and recommend the gothic shrillness of Circus of Horrors, the real dread in Dead of Night, and Michael Apted’s popular 70s classic, Stardust. Fascinating films with the darkness and the sunshine of some rare cinematic imaginations.
